The Best Laptop

The best laptop for online gaming can be categorized into two.

  1. High End Laptop

  2. Budget Laptop

High End Laptops. This is the desktop replacement type wherein budget is out of the question, thus the word high end. The price range starts from US$2,500 and tops at about US$4,000 or more, depends on the brand. You can customize the components that you need, the biggest HDD, the fastest processor, the latest graphics card with the biggest memory and the largest screen. But mind you, not all latest and most expensive are the best. Also not all popular brands are the best. There might be some compatibility or interoperation issues since it is in a laptop form factor. You may need to contact the merchant for advise. Desktop offers more flexibility in terms of customization.

Budget Laptops These type of laptops are the more common readily available laptops that you can get off the shelves. Just go for a better graphic card since these laptops are combined with some faster processors and other components from the manufacturer. Look for Nvidia 8400M GS/GT with 256 MB memory or better. Another is the ATI Radeon HD 3650 which is usually combined with AMD processors. Price starts at US$800 and up.

My Choice

Here are a few of the laptops of my choice. I do not endorse any of these products and I am not an owner of any of these, but If I have the money, I'll buy it. Then return it if I'm not happy (",). In my personal opinion, desktop offers more flexibility, upgadeabilityand other options but has limited, if not, no mobility at all.

I haven't used Macs so I cannot say any word about it. I am happy with my current PC with free softwares from OpenSouce. Why pay when you gan have it for free, just say thank you. I am still satisfied with my Latitude that has just got a 250GB drive upgrade.

Add Ons

As for add ons, on other words, peripherals. So here is what I reccommend:

First, laptops cannot give a full 5.1 surround sound. Get a USB sound processor. Heres an example. Or if the PC that you have has an external speaker output/connection (SPDIF), put a speaker. 5.1 system to fully immense yourself in the game that you are playing.

Second, get a cordless/bluetooth mouse/joystick/controller. It is helpful so you dont squeeze or hammer your keyboard too much.

Third, put in an external monitor if you are not satisfied with the notebook display. It has a higher resolution and the graphic card may support 3D.

Online gaming needs the fastest connection to the internet. While the connnection vary by ISP which you have no control, get a good gaming router with gigabit connection. Dlink DIR-655 is my favorite since it has gigabit WAN connection among others. Of course your laptop of choice should have a gigabit ethernet port as well to reap the benefit.

To conclude: Computer technology of today is very fastly evolving. If you get the latest PC by today. in two months time there's a new one, good or better than what you have. So just get what you think is enough for your need without spending too much, unless you got a lot of cash to burn. Besides the games has its reccommended hardwares to run. I'll be happy to spend the average cost for a good configuration.
